What is Pro-Nox?
Pro-Nox, commonly known as laughing gas, is a pressure-controlled system that has been used by thousands of medical practices in the United States alone. It is non-invasive and non-pharmacological, offering a safe alternative to medications. While it has many uses, we offer Pro-Nox to patients who wish to relieve anxiety and pain immediately.
The device features an easy-to-use disposable nasal cannula with a flow rate of 0.2 L/min, providing 50% nitrous oxide and 50% oxygen in a balanced ratio that is ideal for relaxation. To use the Pro-Nox machine, the patient needs to place the disposable nasal cannula at their nose and inhale deeply. During every ProNox visit, we will be there to assist the patient in setting up the machine before they are given complete control over the system. As the patient uses the machine, we will be close by monitoring to ensure they are using the system responsibly and to ensure they are as comfortable as possible. Since the patient will not be put to sleep, they may ask our team questions or share any concerns that may arise during this time.
How Pro-Nox relieves anxiety
ProNox's purpose is to reduce anxiety. When an individual is anxious, the brain sends signals to their nerves and muscles, telling them to get ready for action. If the individual has too much anxiety in their body at any given time, it can be painful or overwhelming to the point that they may feel like passing out from all the tension they are experiencing. The nitrous oxide within ProNox stimulates the nervous system, sending these signals less often, resulting in relief from tension and pain.

Q. Will the Pro-Nox make me tired?
A. While you will be in a relaxed state, you will be fully conscious. Patients are still able to return home and resume their normal activities after their session. If you feel symptoms such as dizziness or excessive fatigue (rare) more than 15-20 minutes after your session, let a staff member know immediately so that we can help.
Q. I have chronic pain. How fast will I feel the gas take effect?
A. The gas takes effect within seconds. Remember, you are in complete control of the process. The more deep breaths you take, the faster the results will come. We will review the patient's medical history before the procedure to ensure the patient is a candidate for Pro-Nox.
Q. Is the Pro-Nox safe to use frequently?
A. Yes. The Pro-Nox device and process are FDA-approved. Not only that, but it has been used for decades, since the 1960s, and there have been no reports of significant side effects. It has also been approved for both children and adults. However, it should be used under medical supervision.
Q. I take other medication for anxiety. Can I still use the Pro-Nox for comfort?
A. The Pro-Nox device can be used in conjunction with prescribed medication, as the gas mixture is not necessarily considered a drug.
