General Lifestyle Tips for Skin Tightening

Aging is a normal part of life, but some people consider skin tightening in order to reverse a few of the signs of getting older. However, you may not realize that while multiple procedures are available in locations like medspas to facilitate skin tightening, you can also make lifestyle modifications to encourage the health and youthfulness of your skin. Incorporating one or more of these strategies into your daily life can lead to better overall health and a younger look.

Skin tightening through lifestyle modifications

Many lifestyle modifications that encourage tight, plump skin are simple to add to a person’s daily routine. These include the following.

Exercising

One of the best things that a person can do for their skin is to exercise regularly. By building muscles underneath the skin, it can become more contoured and supported, resulting in a more sculpted look that cuts down on sagging and wrinkles. Additionally, exercise boosts blood flow to ensure that the skin is receiving the oxygen and nutrients that it needs. Blood carries away old cells and waste products, keeping the body healthy and in good condition. By supporting the entire body, the skin also benefits; after all, it is the body’s largest organ!

Reducing fat

Those who regularly stay active can benefit from fat reduction. Exercise burns calories, which can help eliminate the subcutaneous fat that sits directly underneath the skin. Too much of this type of fat can create inconsistencies in the skin and lead to sagging, wrinkles, and creases.

By reducing this fat, the skin typically becomes tighter. Remember, however, that spot targeting fat does not normally work; a person cannot exercise only their stomach in order to get rid of stomach fat. The body burns fat according to its own preferences based on a calorie deficit, not which muscles are used.

Massaging the skin

In addition to being a great way to relax and de-stress (which is good for the skin in its own right), massaging the skin can help keep it tight and perky. Massages increase blood flow to the affected areas, ensuring that the skin stays hydrated and supported.

Furthermore, massaging the skin helps stretch it to keep it strong. The area can become tough enough to withstand the increased touch. The body may then send more collagen to the area to support the skin, increasing elasticity for a youthful look.

Drinking enough water

One of the most influential factors that determine whether skin remains young looking is hydration. Long periods of dehydration leave the body without enough water to adequately support its systems. Skin cells rely on water to act as a transport unit, carrying nutrients toward the skin tissue and grabbing waste products to ferry away. When moisture is scarce, the skin cannot perform these tasks as efficiently.

As a result, the skin dries out, leading to increased wrinkling and flaking. Hydrated skin is plump, soft, and supple, and an increase in moisture can fill in small creases and wrinkles while keeping other body parts in good health. It is a win-win situation!

Exfoliating

The skin is constantly making new cells to replace old ones that have done their job. In fact, according to WebMD, a person’s entire body’s worth of skin is replaced roughly every month — that is almost 500 million cells each day! Part of what can make the skin look uneven and patchy is a buildup of these old, dead cells.

Exfoliation is the process of using a rough material to slough off the old skin cells from the surface so younger, newer skin can shine through. Most people can benefit from exfoliation two or three times a week, allowing enough time in between sessions for the skin to recover. When the cells underneath are exposed, they tend to be soft and hydrated, leading to a younger look.
