Although this procedure is not right for everyone, radio frequency skin tightening can help men and women of varying ages who want smoother-looking skin without surgery or injectable fillers.

How to prepare for the procedure
Before any procedure is assigned, we conduct an initial or exploratory consultation on all our patients. The purpose of the consultation is to determine the most effective treatment for the patient, as everyone is different and may respond better to alternative treatments. During the consultation, we will review the patient's medical history, including:

- Blood disorders
- Over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription medications
We also ask questions about whether the patient is pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Patients must be honest during this consultation, as RF can negatively impact a fetus or nursing infant.
To ensure the best results, we recommend that patients avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and chemical peels 24 hours before and after their treatment. In addition, if the patient has had a recent procedure such as a chemical peel or laser resurfacing, we will advise them to wait at least one month before scheduling the radio frequency tightening appointment.
What to expect during the procedure
After approval, the patient may schedule their procedure appointment, which will take place in-office. To begin, we will numb the patient with a topical anesthetic cream to reduce the chances of discomfort during the process. We will then use a small applicator or probe to deliver radiofrequency energy to the problem area. This energy will heat the collagen fibers deep beneath the surface of the patient's skin. Once cool, these fibers contract and tighten the treatment areas, resulting in improved tone and texture.
The time length of the session can last up to 40 minutes. It depends on the area of the body receiving treatment, the size, and if we will be treating more than one area. Once complete, the patient can resume normal activities, such as driving or returning to work.
Potential side effects include slight swelling and redness that may last up to 24 hours after the procedure. Though rare, if the patient is experiencing moderate to severe pain, hyper swelling, or any other adverse reactions, we encourage them to contact our office immediately so that we may advise accordingly. Additionally, if the patient deems their side effects an emergency, seek emergency care immediately, and contact us afterward.
After Care
In addition to avoiding UV rays 24 hours following treatment, patients should also avoid applying lotion to the treatment sites. Applying lotion immediately after the procedure may interfere with the penetration into deeper layers of the skin.
Unless they receive alternative advice from our doctor, patients are free to resume their normal skincare routines as there are no known health risks associated with this procedure.
Follow-up appointments are not typically scheduled. However, if the patient has concerns within the following days or weeks of their appointment, we invite them to contact our office and advise accordingly.
